The charges relate to an alleged incident on March 24 this year, in which a 27-year-old Seabrook man was driving along King Street, when his car was blocked in by two other vehicles.
The victim exited the vehicle and was approached by two groups of males, who allegedly assaulted him and struck him to the head.
The man remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A 23-year-old New South Wales man was arrested on May 1 in relation to the incident.
He was charged with attempted murder and extradited to Victoria, where he has been remanded to appear at Melbourne County Court on July 30.
Detectives are still looking for a number of males in relation to the assault.
They are perceived as African in appearance and may have been travelling in two red vehicles, a Mitsubishi and Subaru.
Police are also investigating whether the parties are known to each other.
