Students from Westbourne Grammar School will host an online trivia and auction night this week to raise funds for a good cause.

Prefects from the Truganina college have organised the event for Friday, August 20 between 7-8.30pm, with members of the public welcome to join in.

House captain Tolu Akinbiyi said she and her fellow students wanted to raise money for an educational residence located in Siem Reap, Cambodia, called Kampuchea House, which provides safe housing, meals and lessons to seriously disadvantaged children in the area.

“It is a bit like a school/orphanage for kids there,” Tolu said.

“Due to COVID, it’s been really tough for them as the local economy is heavily dependent on tourism.

“We are holding a trivia and auction night where we will be playing a trivia game with prizes, as well as auctioning off items donated by local Aussie businesses.

“All of the proceeds of this event are going to Kampuchea House.”

Westbourne students have been raising funds for Kampuchea House for the past 12 years.

Traditionally, the trivia night and fundraiser is held in person, but the pandemic means it has to be held online this year.

Tickets to the Westbourne Grammar School Prefects’ Virtual Trivia and Auction Night Friday cost $25 per household.

Families can be represented by one or more team members.

A link to join the Zoom event will be sent to participants upon successful registration.
