Les Porter has jumped off his trike, having logged more than 1000 kilometres and lodged more than $17,000 in the bank for the Salvation Army.

The Werribee resident completed his seventh successful Wyndham 1000, riding his tricycle around Wyndham for 1003 kilometres during the month of October while raising funds for the Salvos.

Mr Porter had the company of 250 Wyndham school students on his ride, with sponsorship providing 2000 cans of food for the organisation to be distributed to people doing it hard.

Salvation Army Wyndham City captain Kim Haworth welcomed the funding.

“It’s so encouraging, such an affirmation of the work we do in the community,” Mrs Haworth said.

“It shows that the community sees and supports the Salvos … It also validates that people see a need here in Wyndham, that we have a community that’s self aware.”

Mrs Haworth said the funds raised would be spread across Salvation Army programs in Wyndham.

“It will go to direct assistance in material aid but also to other programs we run like the On the Move Werribee bus, other activities and lunches.”
