Trash changes trialled

Changes will be made to the municipality’s waste disposal services as Wyndham council trials new, more flexible methods, to help residents remove waste.

Households currently paying a waste charge with their rates have the option to book three hard and green and waste collections.

Residents will now be able to exchange their hard and green waste vouchers for Waste Disposal Vouchers, which can be used to drop off waste at the Refuse Disposal Facility (RDF) in Werribee.

For renters or homeowners who have used their hard and green waste collections, residents will now be able to book additional services throughout the year.

The charge per additional service is $100 and is available upon conversation with a council officer.

The third change will ensure residents who do not pay the waste charge, like people living in multi-unit dwellings, the ability to book a hard or green waste collection for a fee of $100.

Council said the service results in over 60 per cent of waste being recycled.

“These three changes are about making it easier and more accessible for people to do the right thing and help keep Wyndham clean,” Wyndham mayor Susan McIntyre said.

“We understand different residents’ demand for waste services can vary dramatically, and by providing greater flexibility, we can better meet community needs.

“If you are struggling to dispose of your waste, call our council officers. We want to work with you to dispose of waste efficiently to keep our city clean.”

Residents can call Wyndham council’s Customer Service Centre for additional information. Hard and green waste collections can also be booked online.

During COVID-19, Wyndham council introduced an online form to allow residents to exchange their Waste Disposal Vouchers for hard or green waste booked collections, council said residents may continue to use this form here.
