Fire, police and paramedic crew members were the toast of the town at the annual Wyndham Emergency Services dinner last week.
Wyndham council honoured frontline emergency service men and women at Encore Events Centre.
Safer communities portfolio holder Kim McAliney said the council was delighted to host 175 members from the region’s emergency services.
“We have teams of emergency services crews working around the clock to protect us and
be there when we need their assistance,” she said.
“Emergency services staff see us at our most vulnerable and often witness traumatic
events.
“They all too often face abuse from people they are trying to help, so I urge Wyndham residents to respect emergency service workers when they are trying to do their job.”
Wyndham’s emergency services teams have in the past six months received 30,000 triple-0 calls for the ambulance, fire and police.
“Listening to the emergency services workers speak at the event about what they do on a daily basis just reinforced how lucky we are to have such dedicated people taking care of our safety,” Cr McAliney said.
She said that with a population of 270,000 residents in Wyndham, there was a growing strain on emergency services.
