Your time to talk trains

By Alesha Capone

The RACV is asking the state’s train users to make their voices heard through the bi-annual On Track survey.

The survey provides the opportunity for commuters to rate their local stations and train journeys.

In the 2017 survey, Wyndham Vale train station placed first out of Melbourne’s suburban stations, with a ranking of 8.97 out of 10.

In comparison, Aircraft station was ranked third-worst, with a rating of 4.2, while Hoppers Crossing station scored 5, Werribee station 5.2, Tarneit station 6 and Williams Landing station 6.7.

RACV Senior Manager Transport, Planning and Infrastructure Peter Kartsidimas said the On Track survey gave public transport users the opportunity to advocate for improvements to the train network.

“Train users can tell us what they really think. What is the state of your local station? Does it need repairs? Do you feel safe? Is there enough parking?” he said.

“We also want to know if your train is overcrowded, frequently late or regularly cancelled.”

The RACV uses the survey’s results to campaign for better transport projects, including train station upgrades and improved services.

“The results of this survey can help us directly influence future planning and improvements in rail facilities,”Mr Kartsidimas said.

“Stations such as Donnybrook, Merinda Park and most recently Hallam have all been listed for upgrades after featuring in previous On Track surveys.”

“You don’t need to be a regular train traveller to take part in the survey.”

The On Track survey will close on Wednesday, November 20. See www.racv.com.au/ontracksurvey for details.
