Wyndham council wants a new telecommunications tower to be built in Little River painted green, so it will be less of an “eyesore”.

Last Tuesday, the council considered a planning application for a tower to be built on vacant land at 21 Station Street, about 200 metres west of the Wests Road intersection.

A council report stated the 47-metre tower “will not have a detrimental effect on adjoining land”, with the closest dwelling about 440 metres away.

During council debate on the topic, Cr Tony Hooper said he would like the tower to be painted a “muted green colour”.

“We need telecommunications towers within our community, but by making these slight changes, it’s making it agree more to the environment that it’s going into,” he said.

“It’s very hard to pretty them up, I’ll admit that, but at least make a complement to the colour of the environment that it’s going into and then it’s not so much of an eyesore”

Cr Heather Marcus praised the idea as “creative and innovative”.

“I am quite sure the people of Little River will love you forever,” she said to Cr Hooper.

Cr Intaj Khan said he was “happy” to see that there were no objections lodged against the plan to build the tower, after the council advertised the application to surrounding land owners.
