Plans for a development in Point Cook featuring apartments, restaurants, a gym and theatre have been shot down by Wyndham council.
At this month’s council meeting, councillors unanimously voted to reject the planning permit application lodged by Caddco, saying it would lead to over development of the area.
The application proposed the use and development of land on Greg Norman Drive in the Sanctuary Lakes estate to create 52 dwellings, rooftop gardens, a gym, a theatre and retail tenancies.
Harrison ward councillor Bob Fairclough said the proposed development was the most “audacious and over the top” application he’d seen in his 11 years on council.
He said the proposal did not align with the Wyndham Planning Scheme and its construction would have a negative effect on the visual amenity of the estate.
Cr Glenn Goodfellow said the visual “bulk and height” of the planned buildings was of concern. Cr Marie Brittan aired her apprehension about a lack of carparking capacity.
Cr Heather Marcus agreed with her colleague, saying it was important that council remained “strong and firm” when it came to carparking.
“We cannot keep reducing the size of carparks,” she said.
The applicant was contacted for comment.
