Thrones musical a ‘hilarious retelling’

Wyndham’s Kelsey Halge has been gracing the stage of St Kilda’s Alex Theatre in a musical parody of award-winning television series, Game of Thrones.

The musical, Thrones! The musical parody was created by globally acclaimed comedy ensemble ‘Baby Wants Candy’ and crams all eight seasons into a fun-filled 90 minutes at the theatre.

The plot involves six friends gathering to watch the final episode of Game of Thrones, only to realise one of them, Linda, has never watched a single episode of the show.

In order to catch her up, the group forces her to join in on a musical, fast-paced recap of the entire show.

The character of Linda is played by Halge.

She describes the musical as a “hilarious retelling of the hit TV show, with the wittiest songs and numerous pop culture references, including Harry Potter, Hunger Games and Frozen”.

Halge said that she has always had a love for performing.

“I have been singing, dancing and acting since I was three, I knew that I always wanted to be on stage,” she said.

“I studied with various coaches and dance teachers, had a full scholarship to a talent agency when I was 11 and I graduated from the arts academy in 2020, I’ve got a bachelor of music theatre and a masters in teaching.”

Halge said what she enjoys most about performing is how free it makes her feel.

“Music theatre is the only art form where you don’t see the results of what you’re doing. The only way you get to see it is through the audience’s perception of you and the show,” she said.

“I’m very lucky, that I get to live out my dreams on stage every night.”

Thrones! The musical parody is at the Alex Theatre until Saturday, June 21.
