Theatre curtain up for new season

Fancy a chuckle? Or perhaps some edge-of- the-seat drama?

There’s something for everyone at the Wyndham Cultural Centre, which launched its 2017 theatre season last week.

The 10-show program kicks off on March 17 with Yours Truly, a wartime-inspired love story of those who left, and those who were left behind.

One of Australia’s best-loved playwrights, Hannie Rayson, will take to the stage later that month for her funny one-woman show, Hello Beautiful.

In May, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow will come to town, serving up some of the festival’s funniest comedians.

Former Blue Heelers stars Julie Nihill and John Wood reunite in June for Bakersfield Mist, which tells the true story of an unemployed bartender, a world-class art expert and a painting bought from an op shop that could be an original Jackson Pollock piece worth millions.

Michael Veitch of Fast Forward and Full Frontal fame will team up in September with Simon Oats for Mystery in the Air, which revisits the golden age of radio.

There’s also a host of shows paying tribute to the music of Burt Bacharach, James Taylor, and the great composers of London’s West End.

Wyndham chief executive Kelly Grigsby said the cultural centre was a great way to experience quality performing arts close to home.

“If you haven’t come along to a show at the theatre before, or haven’t been for some time, make it a plan for 2017,” she encouraged.
