Teens facing speeding, theft charges

Police have charged six boys who allegedly drove a stolen vehicle at high speeds through Wyndham.

It’s alleged that police observed a stolen white Mazda 6 sedan speeding erratically near Fresco Way, Tarneit, about 9.30pm on Thursday, June 27.

Shortly after, officers allege that the Mazda was seen speeding through a red light on Hummingbird Boulevard, Tarneit.

The police air wing then observed the Mazda allegedly traveling at more than 150km/h in a 60km zone, before later being involved in a near miss with a pedestrian in the vicinity of Thames Boulevard.

It’s alleged the boys were then seen dumping the Mazda near Fragrance Terrace in Manor Lakes, before taking off from the scene on foot.

A short time later police arrested seven boys, all in the vicinity of Fragrance Terrace.

There were no injuries.

Police allege that the Mazda was stolen from a Truganina address earlier this month.

Three 16-year-old Tarneit boys, a 17-year-old Tarneit boy, a 16-year-old Truganina boy and a 16-year-old Hoppers Crossing boy were all charged with theft of a motor vehicle and various traffic offences.

The six boys were bailed to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

A seventh boy, a 16-year-old from Truganina, was issued with a caution.
