Teens charged over Altona Meadows attack

Several teenagers from across Hobsons Bay and Wyndham have been charged following an armed robbery and serious assault in Altona Meadows.

Police allege a man was approached by a group of males and pushed to the ground at a shopping centre on Central Avenue at about 8pm on Saturday, July 19. Star Weekly believes the shopping centre was Central Square.

One of the males allegedly produced an edged weapon and struck the victim’s forearm, causing a serious injury. The victim, a 33-year-old Altona Meadows man, remains in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

It is alleged the offenders then fled with the victim’s phone.

Four teens were arrested in relation to the incident on Tuesday, July 22.

A 14-year-old boy from the Wyndham area has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing injury, robbery and unlawful assault. He has been remanded to face a children’s court.

Two 15-year-old boys from the Hobsons Bay area were also charged with intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing injury, robbery and unlawful assault. They were bailed to face a children’s court at a later date.

A 14-year-old boy from the Hobsons Bay area is expected to be charged on summons.

Investigators are continuing to search for a fifth person believed to be involved.
