Teens arrested after pursuit, crash

Police have charged three teenagers, including two boys from Wyndham, after a stolen ute collided with a tram while allegedly attempting to evade authorities on Friday, May 28.

Police said the ute was stolen from a residence on Satellite Drive, Werribee on May 27 between 2am and 5am.

About 8am the next day, officers observed three teenage boys and a woman travelling in a stolen black Holden ute on Studley Street, Abbotsford.

The car allegedly evaded police before colliding with a vehicle and a tram at the intersection of Hoddle and Victoria streets in Richmond.

The vehicle continued driving through Richmond, East Melbourne and Hawthorn before it was dumped at a service station near Earl Street, Kew where it caught fire.

Four people were arrested nearby a short time later. They have each been charged with theft of motor vehicle and fail to stop after an accident.

Three boys, a 14-year-old from Tarneit, a 15-year-old from Werribee and a 17-year-old from Northcote are to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

A 19-year-old woman from Ardeer was remanded in custody.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
