Little River teenager Justyn Green has been recognised with an award from the Australian Defence Force.
Mr Green, a year 12 student at Mackillop Catholic Regional College in Werribee, has been presented with the ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award.
The awards are given to students who display the same traits as the Australian military who took part in the Battle of Long Tan in the Vietnam War, including determination, mateship, teamwork, tenacity, compassion and leadership.
Earlier this year Mr Green, who is also a DJ, organised a music event in Geelong which raised more than $2000.
He donated the money to the Geelong branch of Headspace. Mr Green, 18, said he became passionate about raising awareness of mental health after losing two friends to suicide.
He said that after he finished year 12, he was keen to continue using his DJing to promote awareness of mental health issues.
He also said he was “shocked and excited” to receive the ADF award.
“I’m really thankful to the MacKillop teachers who helped me to apply for the award, Andrew Exton and Tom Elliot,” he said.
