Tech businesses to benefit from new government marketplace

Tech procurement will be streamlined by the state government in an effort to assist small to medium sized businesses and organisations in Wyndham work with the government.

Minister for government services Danny Pearson announced the government will tender to source a vendor to manage, maintain and enhance a new Digital Victoria Marketplace.

The platform will be centralised to allow Victorian businesses to place bids for information and communications technology (ICT) contracts with the state government.

The initiative will streamline the supply of ICT goods and services, also enhancing social procurement for businesses.

During the previous financial year the government spent $130 million on eServices and IT infrastructure via purchasing contracts.

“The Digital Marketplace will give Victorian businesses and social enterprises a better run at government contracts, and that’s good for jobs and the economy,” Minister Pearson said.

The technology sector is a growing industry in Victoria with 270,000 workers. It is predicted to grow by an average of 5.3 per cent each year across the next five years.
