Taxi driver assaulted

Police hope to identify this man, whom they believe will be able to assist with the investigation.

Police have appealed for help to identify a man who allegedly assaulted a taxi driver last month.

On September 23, a taxi picked up two men in Toritta Way, Truganina  just after midnight.

The driver took the passengers to Sayers Road, near Tarneit Road in Tarneit.

Police said one of the men allegedly started to argue with the taxi driver about the fare.

The man and the driver stepped out of the vehicle,  still arguing and the driver was struck with a glass bottle, causing lacerations around his eye.

The man fled the scene, but his companion accompanied the taxi driver to the police station.

Police called an ambulance and the driver was transported to hospital.

The taxi driver, a Point Cook man aged in his mid-forties, has not returned to work since the incident.

The alleged offender was described as a male with dark hair,  wearing an Adidas hooded top at the time of the assault.

Police said the second passenger was not involved in the assault in any way, but left the station before officers had a chance to speak with him.
