Tarneit BMX rider Jazmine Dalli will get a second shot at nationals glory next year after winning big at the recent BMX Victoria state titles.

The eight-year-old has capped off a mammoth year of competition by coming first in a field of 14 in the “girls 8” division at the recent state titles held in Shepparton.

Mum Amy said Jazmine blitzed two out of three motos.

She will now contest the 2016 BMX National Championships in Bathurst in February, where she we will be hoping to place in the top three.

The grade 3 Bethany Catholic Primary School pupil ditched ballet for BMX almost three years ago after seeing her brother Zachary giving it a go.

She competes with Geelong Thunder BMX club and trains twice a week under the guidance of coaches James Lautier and father-son team Fraser and Brandon Te Hiko.

Earlier this year Jazmine finished sixth in her first-ever nationals event, and has since displayed a “6A” plate on her bike to reflect her ranking.

Her latest win comes soon after Jazmine and Zachary were signed to Australian BMX race team GHP BMX Australia.

“She’s got a lot of work and training ahead of her,” Amy said.

“She’s proving to everyone that BMX is not just a boy’s sport.”

Jazmine, who idolises BMX riders Caroline Buchanan, Lauren Reynolds and Mariana Pajon, hopes to one day make BMX a career.
