Aldi and Coles supermarkets will anchor a $70 million new shopping centre at Tarneit.
Construction has started on the 25,000 square-metre Tarneit Central shopping centre, which will include the two supermarket chains, a Kmart and more than 45 specialty stores, including fashion, fresh food and dining.
It will also include 950 car parking spaces and is expected to open in October next year.
The shopping centre, on the corner of Derrimut and Leakes roads, bounds the established Rose Grange and new Westbrook estates.
Tarneit Central is the vision of Ranfurlie Developments, the retail and commercial arm of Dennis Family Corporation.
Ranfurlie Developments chief executive Mark Wilson said the supermarket project is only stage one of the development, with a second stage on the cards.
“Our development of Tarneit Central will include a variety of prominent retail chains amongst the initial tenants,” Mr Wilson said.
“In addition to the retail offer, the centre will deliver great convenience for the neighbourhood … in particular the strong local family market.
“As part of our planning, we are proud to be delivering carefully considered, family-friendly features, including a state-of-the-art parents’ room and kids’ play area, and wi-fi zones.
“This project meets our objective of improving the local area’s town centre, and delivers an active centre experience where people can work, live and shop for everyday needs.”
Ranfurlie Developments has appointed Colliers International to oversee leasing opportunities for stage one.
Mike Crittenden from Colliers said once complete, Tarneit Central would “provide convenience shopping to the surrounding catchment of more than 188,000 [residents].”
