Two independent Wyndham schools are set to receive state government funding to build new classrooms and facilities.
Good News Lutheran College in Tarneit will receive $2.03 million for a new middle years building and carparks.
Principal Simon Hughes said the funds were “urgently” needed.
“We’re at capacity with the number of classrooms we have,” he said.
“We’re in dire need of more space.”
The Christian prep-to-year-12 school currently has 790 students.
St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School, also in Tarneit, will be given $750,000 by the state government to build six new classrooms.
Education Minister James Merlino said one in three Victorian children attended an independent or Catholic school.
“They are a vital part of our education system and this funding will help provide better facilities to more Victorian students,” he said.
The two Tarneit schools are among 18 non-government schools across the state sharing in $27.6 million to help build or upgrade facilities.
Meanwhile construction on Tarneit P-9 College’s new year 7-9 centre has started.
The 2015-16 Victorian budget allocated $10 million to fund the project.
Since the school opened in 2013, student numbers have increased from 331 students to 1594 this year.
