Construction on the Tarneit Road and Leakes Road intersection upgrade will begin later this month.

The $10.5 million project, which is part of the Connecting Wyndham priority, will result in the duplication of the the intersection, adding extra lanes to cater for growing traffic and minimise traffic disruptions.

It will also upgrade and install new traffic lights to improve the flow of traffic and introduce both on-road and off-road cycling lanes to enhance cyclist safety and connectivity.

Mayor Mia Shaw said the project would enhance the capacity, safety and efficiency of this major intersection.

“This important upgrade will significantly improve turning capacity at this intersection as well as overall traffic flow, making it easier for our community to travel around Tarneit and neighbouring suburbs,” she said.

“This project has been prioritised due to its significant impact on road safety and traffic congestion, based on both thorough analysis and community feedback.”

Councillor Josh Gilligan said the upgrade is a crucial part of Wyndham’s future.

“It will also substantially enhance safety for all road users, with better pedestrian and cycling linkages for those walking or cycling,” he said.
