Tales of the ccean

A show exploring tales of the ocean is coming to the Bowery Theatre in Brimbank.

The performance is part of Beyond Disability Services’s program ‘Beyond Broadway’ where participants meet each Wednesday to develop and rehearse theatre and performance.

Show director Anabel said the participants helped brainstorm ideas, choreograph routines, create scripts and make props.

“They were very actively involved in the process of making the show. Every single person that’s in the show has contributed to it in some way,” Anabel said.

“The show is one big storybook full of stories and each story is a tale, and that tale will be performed onstage.”

Beyond Disabilities Services director Marina Ivelja said each participant set out to achieve their own personal goal as part of the production process.

“This is a really good program because it helps them achieve their goals and work on their confidence,” she said.

The show is suitable for all audiences.

“It’s kid friendly, and it’s also welcoming to people with disabilities,” Anabel said.

“It’s made to be very entertaining and interactive. And the more people we have the better because the vibes will be higher.”

“A lot of these participants on stage are performing for the first time in a theatre, so support from the community is greatly appreciated as they’ll be supporting people with a disability.”

One hundred per cent of ticket sales will go back into the Beyond Disability Services drama production and the carers retreat run by the organisation.

Tales of the Ocean will be showing at 5.30pm on Wednesday 12 November at the Bowery Theatre, 33 Princess Street, St Albans.
