Taking steps towards good mental health

When Daniel Palmer needed to rush his son to the Werribee Hospital Emergency Department one Sunday, he left feeling grateful and like he needed to give back in some capacity,

“I have always wanted to do my small part volunteering for the community in one way or another,” the Point Cook resident said.

When Mr Palmer heard about not-for-profit group Wyndham Health Foundation’s 5KOK challenge, he saw it as the perfect opportunity to do good.

“The challenge is to run, walk, ride or even skate 5km everyday for 5 days straight. I will also be adding an additional day of running for every $100 milestone we reach in our total donations,” he said.

“If we reach $1000, it will be an extra 10 days of running. The goal is to reach $2600+ so that I run every day of October.”

Mr Palmer hopes his participation raises funds to support mental health services in the Wyndham community, as well as raise awareness to the seriousness of mental health within the community, while simultaneously understanding the importance of taking care of our own.

“It’s not only a great initiative to raise funds for the foundation and support our community, but being active outside is a fantastic way to bring positive energy to your own mental health. So even if you don’t take part in the fundraising, getting active can only benefit your own wellbeing,” he said.
