Nine year-old Taha says that it was “cool” to receive an award from her school in the mail.
Taha, who attends Cambridge Primary School in Hoppers Crossing, was to be presented with a Principal’s award at a school assembly in March.
However, Taha’s father Imran Abul Kashem said the assembly was cancelled because of coronavirus concerns, as pupils began learning from home.
Mr Kashem said Taha was surprised and happy when the school posted the award to her.
Taha said she received the award for aiming high to be the best she possibly could, and for showing positivity.
“I thought last year and the year before that I would never get a Principal’s award,” she said.
Taha, who is learning remotely from home at the moment, said she was keen to return to school.
“I miss everything related to school, except for homework,” she said.
Taha said she enjoyed writing and art, but had become quite interested in maths lately.
“My maths teacher Miss Caine is very good,” she said.
“Miss O’Mealley, my homeroom teacher, also helped me a lot with literacy/humanities and she also gave me confidence to present in front of the class.”
Taha said she enjoyed learning about history and news, as well.
“I think I’d like to go to law and art school, I would like to work in criminology,” she said.
