The state government is supporting the garden and nursery businesses to grow, including those in Wyndham, by helping them to attract more employees and address skills gaps.

A new report into the the Victorian nursery and garden industry found that 75 per cent of businesses were looking to expand operations as the industry continues to blossom.

The ‘Realisation of Growth Opportunities within the Victorian Nursery and Garden Industry’ report commissioned by the Nursery and Garden Industry Victoria (NGIV) revealed that the industry is estimated to be worth $2.5 billion and employed more than 24,000 in the previous financial year.

The government is supporting businesses through the $15 million Food to Market program, providing the NGIV with $110,084 in funding.

The program has supported the state’s agriculture supply chain and created jobs by supporting pilot projects, investing in food and beverage companies and manufacturing plants.

Victorian Agriculture minister Gayle Tierney said the report was a great resource for the nursery and garden industry.

“I look forward to seeing the industry respond to the insights and ensure future growth across the sector.”
