The Wyndham community is throwing its arms around a family that includes three young boys who lost their mother to depression.
Kristy King is being remembered as a “wonderful and genuine person” with a kind nature.
The Manor Lakes mum to Brodie,11, Corey, 9, and eight-year-old Lochlyn died on March 22.
Her close family friend Nicole Casaccio said that their families, who were neighbours, were “always there for each other when we needed a helping hand”.
“Kristy was a beautiful kind-hearted soul who always went out of her way to help others,” Ms Casaccio told Star Weekly.
“Always there with open ears to offer advice and a smile on her face.
“A beautiful mother to her three boys. They were her life.”
Ms Casaccio said Kristy and husband Kristian were adventurous and were “always looking forward to their next camping trip or fishing adventure with the family”.
The Werribee Flames Basketball Club paid respect to the King family posting on its Facebook page last week: “Our Flames family lost a beautiful soul and these three beautiful boys lost their mum.”
Sister Linda Kelly said it had been “a long hard battle of depression” for Kristy.
“She was a mother who loved her kids more than anything in the world, unfortunately, this disease got the better of her and won,” Ms Kelly said.
Ms Kelly set up an online crowdfunding campaign towards a trust fund for the three boys that has already raised more than $17,000.
“This goes to show what an amazing person Kristy was and how many lives and people [she] touched,” she said of the campaign.
“The more money we raise, the more help we can give the boys for their future.”
Only 10 people can attend a service for Kristy because of COVID-19 restrictions.
Her family plans on creating a slideshow of pictures, her favorite music and lilies to place with her.
Kristy is survived by her husband Kristian and sons Brodie, Corey and Lochlyn along with their family dog Molly.
