A group of Point Cook Senior College students are gearing up to create a mural along the Palmers Road noise barrier.
Seven year 12 VCAL students – Eric, Mohammed, Josh, Brodie, Tamika, Emma and Brooke – were tasked with designing a mural that epitomised Point Cook.
The group originally started off with about 20 ideas, with the winning idea being Point Cook RAAF planes flying over the city skyline.
The seven students will spend a week painting the mural along two panels of the Palmers Road sound wall, between the Skeleton Creek overpass and Willowgreen Way, later this month.
Hoppers Crossing Apex Club has pitched in by supplying the paint for the project. A layer of anti-graffiti coating will be applied to the mural once it’s complete.
Susan McIntyre from the Point Cook Action Group, was one of the instigators behind the painting of the Palmers Road barriers and said it had always been the group’s intention to add murals along the stretch.
Ms McIntyre said she was particularly keen to get young people involved, and as the area’s only public high school, Point Cook Senior Secondary College was a perfect fit.
Point Cook Senior College teacher Bryce Flannery said students would be able to look upon the mural as their legacy.
“This is something the students can look back on when they’re older and say ‘I created that’.”
