Two students have been recognised as the dux and dux proximus of Thomas Carr College in Tarneit.
Sinit Berhane was named dux after receiving an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) score of 98.15, out of a possible 99.95, on December 30.
Fellow student Amy Virgona was named dux proximus of the college, with an ATAR score of 97.15.
Both Sinit and Amy also received a VCE – Baccalaureate, which is an award for high-achieving students who choose to undertake the demands of studying both a higher level mathematics and a language in their VCE.
Amy, who was a vice-captain at Thomas Carr, said that she was “really surprised” to find out her VCE results.
She received a study score of 44 in history (out of 50) and 43 in English, along with a 42 in Biology, which she studied in 2019.
Amy, 17, said she has been accepted to study a bachelor of science at the University of Melbourne this year.
“The course is for three years and I also hope to complete a master’s degree,” she said.
“I would also maybe like to do some volunteer work this year, potentially with the Salvation Army or within university.”
Amy said she would like to thank her friends, teachers and family for their support during her year 12 studies.
When asked what advice she would give year 12 students, Amy said: “I would just say to find your own study style.”
