A new photography competition aims to capture the rich tapestry of traditional fashion found on the streets of Wyndham.

Entries for the Ethnic Elegance Street Photography Competition are currently open with judges seeking images that showcase the elegance, diversity, and vibrancy of traditional fashion in urban environments.

Photographs that not only capture the visual aesthetics of traditional attire but also convey the stories, customs, and identities woven into each garment, are especially sought after.

Each participant may submit up to three photographs in the competition which closes at 12 pm on Sunday June 9.

Up to 40 shortlisted images will be chosen to be part of a digital projection that will be shown at Winter Street Festival 2024 and also be part of a photography exhibition at Saltwater Community Centre from July 26 to September 25.

The two top prizes on offer are people’s choice and judges choice award, with both worth $500.

All entries will be judged on their cultural authenticity, visual appeal and respectful representation.

Submissions should be in digital format (JPEG or PNG) and contain an artist statement and a brief description for each photograph, offering insights into the cultural context or significance of the traditional fashion depicted.

Shortlisted artists will informed by June 19 and asked to submit high resolution versions of their photos.
