Melbourne Storm players arrived in Werribee on Friday, January 21 for a special open training session.
Supporters from across the west attended Victoria University’s Wyndham Sporting Complex in Hoppers Lane, to watch the team hone their skills before the start of the NRL season in March.
Following training, the players took part in interviews, followed by an NRL Victoria junior clinic for children.
The Werribee open session followed on from a similar event held within the Hume municipality, in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, just before Christmas.
The same day of Melbourne Storm’s Werribee training session, the team’s 2021 co-captain Jesse Bromwich announced he would finish his career with the club at the end of the 2022 season.
Bromwich, 32, has played more than 270 matches for Melbourne Storm since making his debut in 2010.
He was part of the premiership-winning teams in 2012, 2017 and 2020, as well as two World Club Challenge victories.
Melbourne Storm chief executive Justin Rodski said Bromwich has “displayed a remarkable consistency of performance and certainly would be on a shortlist of best front-rowers in the game over the past decade”.
“We will savour the last year of having Jesse at our club and I’m sure he will be determined to make 2022 one to remember,” Mr Rodski said.
Melbourne Storm will play their first match of the 2022 NRL season against the West Tigers at 7.35pm on Saturday, March 12 at CommBank Stadium in Sydney.
