The water supply to a Point Cook school was disrupted on Monday after its water meter was stolen.

Werribee police are investigating the theft of the water meter and criminal damage that occurred at Saltwater P-9 College at the weekend.

It is understood an unknown person dismantled the water meter at the school on Kirra Place, Point Cook, at some point between 6pm on Friday, June 21, and 6.45am on Monday, June 24.

Investigators believe copper pipes were stolen from the meter.

While the water supply to the school was impacted by the theft, the Department of Education confirmed that Saltwater P-9 College remained open on Monday and that the connection has since been restored.
