Meet the man who has made a living out of removing snakes from backyards.

Stewart Gatt, aka Stewy the Snake Catcher, has been catching snakes on a part-time basis since 2009 before going full-time in 2016.

He is contracted to remove snakes with both Wyndham and Hobsons Bay councils and also responds to residential and industrial call-outs. He’s also built a large social media following, with more than 18,000 likes on Facebook, where he posts videos of some of his call-outs.

“I’ve always had a passion for reptiles and snakes … the fact that we can help rescue and give a snake another chance to live in the wild – that is why I do what I do,” Mr Gatt said.

This year, Mr Gatt has put his hat in the ring for the home-based category, among others, in the Wyndham Business Awards, of which Star Weekly is a media partner.

Entries and nominations are open until June 8, with award categories for home-based, logistics, manufacturing, new and emerging, personal services, professional services, trade and construction, people’s choice, arts, experience and hospitality, business person of the year and young business person of the year, mayoral award and the prestigious business of the year.
