It’s been a big month for politics, with the federal election just a few weeks ago delivering us an Albanese Labor Government in Canberra. I congratulate my federal colleagues, Joanne Ryan and Tim Watts, on their re-election and can’t wait to see them delivering for Wyndham.
As for right here in Spring Street, you might have missed the Victorian Budget 2022/23 which was chock full of many wonderful surprises for our community.
The ultimate focus was on health and delivering a $12 billion investment to repair and strengthen our health system against the challenges exposed by the pandemic. This will see more doctors, nurses and ambos trained to provide us with the healthcare we deserve, more support for our emergency call workers at ESTA, and getting elective surgery back on track. For our community in particular, this flagship commitment takes the form of a $109.6 million upgrade of Werribee Mercy’s Emergency Department. Additional capacity at the hospital is also being created by establishing and staffing modular units to provide triage, assessment, and urgent care clinic functions.
All together ensuring that Werribee Mercy Hospital can meet the healthcare demands of our growing community for many years to come.
When it comes to new schools in The Education State, Wyndham is winning big time. I’ve spoken here before about what our Government has been doing to deliver more schools, and now there are six in the works to open in Tarneit District by 2024. This includes a new high school each for Tarneit and Truganina North. The dual campus Truganina North Secondary School will soon see its senior campus taking shape on Morris Road, and its Junior Campus built alongside Truganina North Primary School on Everton Rd as part of the Truganina North Education Precinct – a major win for the
Elements Estate community that advocated so strongly for this. When it comes to existing schools, we’ve also benefitted with Mossfiel Primary, one of our oldest schools, receiving $498,100 to upgrade it’s toilet block, and Warringah Park Primary School receiving $14.66 million to upgrade classroom facilities across campuses.
Other local wins also include half a million dollars to plan a new Community and Performing Arts Centre in Tarneit, and more funding has been given to upgrade intersections across the electorate, including at Derrimut and Boundary Roads in Tarneit, and the intersection at Heaths Road and Woodville Park Drive in Hoppers Crossing.
With the budget delivered, we’re just getting started. One election may be over, but there’s another to come this November as the Andrews Government get on with the job of building for the future.
