Star Weekly gears up to Relay for Life

There’s only two days to go until Wyndham’s Relay for Life, and the Star Weekly team is on track to do a whole lot of laps.

About 20 staff from Star Weekly’s Werribee, Keilor Park and Melton editorial and advertising departments, plus family and friends, will take part in the 24-hour relay, which kicks off at noon this Saturday at the Victoria University athletics track, and finishes noon Sunday.

This year, Wyndham council mayor Peter Maynard will also join the team for the final leg of the event on Sunday morning.

Star Weekly is one of 93 teams taking part in the Wyndham relay, with cancer survivors and carers among the relayers. A combined $210,000 has been raised to date, with all funds raised going towards Cancer Council research, prevention and support services.

This is the third year Star Weekly has taken on the challenge, raising more than $8200 for the Cancer Council in its first two attempts. Last year, the team received a Cancer Council research award for its efforts, with the money raised going towards a forgotten cancers research project.

Star Weekly wishes to thank Western Athletics for donating a marquee to keep the team under cover this weekend, and Phat Franks for keeping us fed while we relay.
