If going up a couple of flights on stairs is enough to make you lose your breath, spare a thought for Rebecca Crennan.
The 21-year-old Wyndham Vale resident will climb more than 7300 stairs at the MCG later this month in a Stadium Stomp MCG challenge.
It’s the second time that Ms Crennan, a disability support worker at Warringa Park School, has taken on the challenge.
This year, she hopes to raise $500 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
“I’ve registered to do the Stadium Stomp again because one of my best friends got diagnosed with leukaemia at the start of January, 2014,” she said.
“It hit close to home because I had already lost two family members the year before to cancer. This year I’m not only doing it for [my friend] Molly – I’m doing it for one of my students who I’ve worked with in recent years. He’s now suffering from his third lot of leukaemia and it breaks my heart.
“As much as I push myself to reach personal goals, I do it to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.”
To be ready for the event, Ms Crennan has been going to Anytime Fitness in Hoppers Crossing up to four times a week to sweat it out on the treadmill, exercise bikes and stepper machine, and pump weights.
Stadium Stomp MCG is on June 26.
