Parks Victoria won’t proceed with a proposal to install toilets within the Point Cook Homestead Precinct stables.
Architects last year completed a heritage impact statement into the proposal to install toilets in the stable building as “free-standing structures that require no fixing to the existing building fabric”.
However, Parks Victoria western region district manager Craig Bray said public feedback on the proposal revealed that installing toilets in the stables “was not what the community wanted”.
Mr Bray said that plans to install new toilets at the homestead precinct were part of a works program designed to support a future expression of interest process for potential community or commercial groups leasing the site.
He said that since the stables proposal was rejected, the design and location of toilets at the precinct were still to be determined.
“Importantly, prior to any decisions regarding design and location of the toilets, Parks Victoria will consult with the community – this will assist in guiding the decisions,” he said.
“Planning is under way for maintenance works at the precinct later this year, including the installation of a new sewer connection, tree risk mitigation works, and maintenance across the buildings and grounds.”
