Nearly 4000 people have already put their hand up for a job at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee – even though the hospital won’t open for another six months.

St Vincent’s Private chief executive Kate Goodwin said the hospital had been overwhelmed by interest taking place well before the formal job application process began.

Ms Goodwin said the hospital would host a careers information night in September for job seekers to find out more about available jobs.

“There will be a number of positions created when the hospital first opens, and as we grow we will, of course, continue to expand our workforce,” she said.

The construction of the hospital is proceeding full steam ahead, with builders ADCO currently completing the external structure and progressing to the internal fit-out.

Once complete, the 49-bed hospital will have three operating theatres, a maternity ward and special-care nursery and a cardiac catheter laboratory. It will include orthopaedics, urology and general surgery, ear, nose and throat services, as well as sleep studies, rehabilitation and oncology services.

An on-site 80-bed aged-care service started taking patients in early June.

Ms Goodwin said St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee would open its doors on January 30, 2018, and would admit its first expecting mothers from late February.

“One in three women currently give birth outside the Wyndham area,” she said.

“St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee anticipate to deliver hundreds of babies in 2018, ramping up to 1500 births in future years due to the population growth and high demand for maternity services in the area.

“St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee will enable better and faster access to healthcare services and therefore better outcomes for patients and families in the Wyndham community.”

Meanwhile, a “Health of the West” fundraising committee is working towards raising $10 million to equip St Vincent’s Private Werribee with the latest medical technology through signature gifts and naming rights.

A number of events and functions will be scheduled closer to the opening to provide opportunities for the community to support their local hospital.
