Sprinkling some joy

By Esther Lauaki

Brothers Zane and Kouda Assaad are working hard and living the sweet life.

Sugar and spice have always been close to the heart of the owners of Tarneit’s Sprinkles Ice Creamery and Lolly Shop.

“We were born into a milk bar in Hoppers Crossing and worked there until we were 25 years of age and our father retired,” Zane said.

The brothers opened their Thames Boulevard shop a little over a year ago and offer 60 flavours of ice cream with a wide selection of lollies.

Their business philosophy is to spread joy and bring the community together, Zane said.

“We lived through the years when your local corner shop had everything you needed,” he said.

“We had an elderly lady crying in the back because the shop took her back to memories of her sister.”

Sprinkles has entered this year’s Wyndham Business Awards in the new and emerging business category.

Star Weekly is a media partner of the Wyndham Business Awards.

Entries and nominations are open until May 31 and categories include home-based; logistics; manufacturing; new and emerging; personal services; professional services; trade and construction; people’s choice; arts, experiences and hospitality; business person of the year; young business person of the year; mayoral award; and business of the year.
