Wyndham secondary students have been invited to submit an original short film reflecting their vision for the wellbeing of the area to a new competition.

The competition is being run by Young Minds of Wyndham, a group including Vijisha Venkatram, a Tarneit resident who also organises the annual Young Scientist of Wyndham competition.

Three judges from a media background will shortlist finalists in the competition, which will be showcased at this year’s Wyndham Learning Festival and screened at Village Cinemas.

Ms Venkatram said she decided to hold the film-making contest to help young adults use their creativity to produce “something amazing” during the tough times of COVID-19.

She said she wanted to encourage youth to use their technological skills to produce art and engage with the content creators of the future.

“I am looking forward to seeing the creative expression of students and how resilient and adaptable kids can be towards life’s challenges, and create ways for the kids to share their experiences –which can lead the way for many others in the community, including me,” Ms Venkatram said.

The My Vision for Wellbeing in Wyndham – 2021 Short Film Competition is open to students in years 7 to 12 who live in Wyndham.

They can enter as individuals or teams, with schools encouraged to get students to submit an entry.

The two competition categories are years 7-9 and years 10-12.

The first prize will be a trophy and $150 cash, second prize $100 cash and third prize $75 cash.

All films must run for between three to six minutes.

Entries must be submitted online by 5pm on Wednesday, June 30.
