Two Hoppers Crossing brothers are taking their support for grassroots sports up a notch.

The Newalls, Jarryd and older brother Clinton, last month launched an online sporting goods store called Clutch Sports and are splitting half the profits with sports clubs nominated by customers.

Jarryd said the pair wanted to build a business with a “good, wholesome point of difference”.

“My brother and I are weekend warriors of all sports,” Jarryd said. “We’ve grown up loving and living vicariously through them.

“We were both looking to get out of the corporate world and sports was our love and we wanted to find a way to marry the two.

“We thought what better way to do that than to fund clubs. There are so many sports clubs, especially in the west, like tennis, cricket, soccer, footy and basketball but so few sponsorship dollars to go around each year.”

Jarryd said his family knows firsthand the struggle to raise money.

“Our parents were always volunteering for our footy club growing up,” he said.

“There are so many volunteers at clubs that give up their time to do choccy drives and sausage sizzles, and they’re all fantastic, but this is another way to help raise those vital funds.”

He said the aim was to encourage everyone to get active and get playing in the community.
