Sports cash boost in Wyndham

Several Wyndham sports clubs will benefit from a share in more than $530,000 in grants from the state government.

Werribee MP Tim Pallas last week announced that the Wyndham City Sharks, Corpus Christi Basketball Club, Werribee Bushwalking & Outdoor Club and the Werribee Centrals Sports and Youth Club were among the 386 sports clubs in Victoria to be funded under the 2018-19 Sporting Club Grants Program.

The grants provide clubs up to $1000 for new uniforms and equipment; up to $2000 to train coaches, officials and volunteers; and up to $5000 to improve operational effectiveness.

The Wyndham City Sharks and Corpus Christi Basketball Club will use their grants for uniforms and equipment.

The Werribee Bushwalking & Outdoor Club will use its grant for first-aid training, while the Werribee Centrals Sports and Youth Club will put its grant towards developing its website and business model.

Mr Pallas said the Sporting Club Grants Program was part of the state government’s commitment to make sport more accessible and inclusive, increase participation and stimulate local economies.

“The Sporting Club Grants Program is giving grassroots sports clubs in Wyndham the support they need to grow their ranks,” he said.
