What started out as the fast and the furious ended up as the charged and the carless for three teens caught speeding in Laverton North last week.
Westgate Highway Patrol members were at the intersection of Pipe and Little Boundary roads just after 11pm on June 11 when they spotted three cars speeding, with the slowest clocked doing 120km/h in a 70km/h zone.
Police pulled over and impounded all three cars at a nearby carwash, charging two 18-year-old male drivers with speeding-related offences. A third 18-year-old man was charged with speeding, drink driving and exceeding passenger restrictions on a P-plate.
The trio were among 453 offences detected across Wyndham during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend as part of statewide road policing operation Operation Regal.
Westgate Highway Patrol nabbed 136 speeding drivers, 25 unlicensed drivers, 15 drunk drivers and 13 disqualified or suspended drivers over the four-day operation.
Police also detected 56 unregistered vehicles, 35 seatbelt offences, 26 drivers disobeying traffic lights or road signs and 20 mobile phone offences.
Statewide, more than 8300 traffic offences and a further 800 criminal offences were detected as part of Operation Regal.
