Special crossing supervisor celebrated by school community

A much loved crossing supervisor from Wyndham celebrated a milestone birthday today, surrounded by the teachers and students who appreciate his hard work and dedication.

Bill Copeland, who turned 90 years old, was met with a colourful banner, balloons and gifts organised by the school community. He was also treated to a special rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ by the young students.

The Altona College crossing supervisor has been working at the school for a little over a decade, and said he loves the fact that it keeps him busy and that he can have a laugh with the kids at the same time.

“I think I’m very happy all the years I’ve done this job. I’m very, very pleased that I’m still doing it, you know?,” Mr Copeland said.

“….Eyesight pretty good, hearing pretty good, so I’m in good shape.”

Kirsty Campbell, whose daughter Zoe is in grade two, said Bill cares deeply for all those involved in the school community, from students and parents, to teachers and pets.

“He takes his role very seriously and is passionate about ensuring our children are able to access their education as safely as possible,” she said.

“He is a wonderful asset to the school and always has a great joke, a smiling face and a caring word to calm the first day of school nerves. He is a school treasure and we are so excited to be able to share his 90th birthday with him.”
