Werribee singer and songwriter Daniel Reeves was on the phone when he found out that his latest single had reached top spot on the iTunes Country Songs Chart.
The song, Into the Sun, debuted at number 10 when it was released last week, before reaching number one.
Mr Reeves said he looked at the music chart, on his mobile, after the friend he was talking to over the phone told him the good news.
“I did have to look at the screen a couple of times,” Mr Reeves said.
“To see my name next to Luke Combs was a really proud moment, he’s a really great musician.”
Mr Reeves said he wrote the song in Werribee, and recorded guitars and vocals in his home studio.
The track’s drums and bass were recorded at the Soundpark studios in Northcote, where Paul Kelly and Courtney Barnett have also recorded.
The film clip for the song was released last Thursday.
Mr Reeves described the song, his sixth solo release, as country rock.
“It is a real-life experience the song is about, you can be in a situation where things are difficult, but you can always look for the great moment in that and those are the things you hold onto, to make it work,” he said.
He said that his love of music was sparked when he heard The Beatles as a child and learned the drums.
Mr Reeves said he decided that he wanted to be a songwriter at age 16, when he took up guitar.
Into The Sun is the first single from Mr Reeves’ upcoming album, Defined. Details: www.facebook.com/danielreevesmusic/
