Somer is moved by music

Werribee singer Somer Smith says she loves music because it has the ability to move people in a way that mere words can’t.

Ms Smith, who released the single Just Us last month, said performing helped to ground her.

“The feeling I get singing alone in my room or on the stage for others is unexplainable and something I never ever want to lose,” she said.

Back in April, Ms Smith released another single titled Cruisin.

“I wrote it in my bedroom and took it into the studio with two producers Robert Amoruso and Ben Oldland,” she said.

“It’s about letting go when we’re faced with a difficult or stressful situation and trusting the process.”

Since its release, Cruisin has been streamed more than 84,000 times on platforms such as iTunes and Spotify.

“My largest audience for the song has been in the US and UK so far with Australia being the third most popular which I think is cool,” Ms Smith said.

“I was overwhelmed and humbled to know that my family and friends were listening to the song, and then to see that people around the world were enjoying it just as much as we were, it felt like a dream come true.”

Ms Smith said she wanted to express gratitude to all her fans, including those who live in Wyndham.

“I would like to say a massive thank you for all of the local support, love and kindness,” she said.

“All I want to do is make myself, my family and community proud.”
