The cost of living is a topic on the minds of economists, homeowners, politicians and, the pupils at St Clare’s Catholic College.
When the school’s student leadership team decided to look into raising money to host a funday at the school, they began by selling popcorn and cookies.
“We’ve been out of school for so long because of COVID-19, we wanted to start to rebuild that sense of community,” wellbeing leader Jan Guardiano said.
When the price of popcorn began to rise, the pupils had to ponder what methods could be used to minimise the amount of profit they would lose.
“They decided to go with a different [brand of] popcorn…they’re learning skills…and learning about running a little business,” Ms Guardiano said.
“They’ve felt really validated in their roles as students in leaders and they’ve been able to have their students voice heard.”
