Four Wyndham youngsters, including siblings Aubrey and Ashlea, have all won prizes in a state-wide art competition designed to promote safety on public transport.

The sisters, aged six and 11 respectively, both entered this year’s Transdev Melbourne School Bus Safety Poster Competition.

The competition asked students to create a poster based on bus safety in wet weather and at bus stops.

Ashlea placed second in the category of the competition for pupils in grades 5 to 6.

Aubrey came third in the prep to year 2 section, which was won by grade 2 pupil Adib from Truganina P-9 College.

Another grade 2 pupil, Avika from Featherbrook P-9 College, received the category’s Journey Maker Award, which was chosen by a popular vote.

Ashlea, who also won first place in the Transdev competition in 2020, said she felt “really happy” to win another prize this year.

“The theme for my poster was about bus safety on rainy days,” she said.

“I imagined myself forgetting my umbrella and so I had to put a story about that into my poster.”

Aubrey said she was “very excited” to win third place.

“This is the first time that I have sent in an entry and I was not expecting to win anything,” she said.

“I just wanted to draw.”

The sisters, who both attend Alamanda K-9 College in Point Cook, thanked Travsdev for running the competition and said they were looking forward to seeing their posters aboard the company’s buses.
