Werribee’s Mother’s Day Classic will hit close to home for sisters Sharen Cations and Francis Bonanno.

The duo, as well as their younger sister Marie Craw, honor their late mother Sylvia McIver every year by participating in the charity walk or running events which raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s research.

Ms Craw is at the helm of Werribee’s first Mother’s Day Classic to be held on Sunday, May 12 at Arndell Community Centre in Truganina.

She said she and her family, who call themselves Sylvia’s Angels, have been involved with the Geelong event for about a decade.

“There are an awful lot of Wyndham people who go to these events in Melbourne, Geelong and Torquay – so it seems fitting to organise a Mother’s Day Classic event in Werribee,” Ms Craw said. “We lost our mum through cancer, I’m a two-time survivor and my sister Sharen is also a survivor.

“Our family has been touched by cancer a lot.”

Ms Craw said participants are encouraged to dress in pink and join a team or bring the family along. Registrations for the three-kilometre walk or five-kilometre walk/run are open online or on the day.
