The fifth annual Little River Art Show, to be held this week, will include pieces from several talented local artists.
Curator Marian D’Rosario said 17 artists from Little River would have their works on display.
“This year we will have a total of 30 artists displaying 130 pieces of artwork, it’s the biggest show we’ve had,” Ms D’Rosario said.
“I’m looking forward to displaying about 10 new artists, including about five from Little River, such as a sculptor who has put some work in, which will take the art show in a new direction.”
Ms D’Rosario said many artists who lived in Little River loved painting the You Yangs and canola fields around the town.
Ms D’Rosario, who is an artist herself, will exhibit a pastel painting and pressed flowers in the show. She said she took photos during her overseas travels, and then painted the animals and landscapes she captured, to raise awareness of conservation.
“Two of my big things are that we have got to preserve some, if not all of these things, for the younger generation,” she said.
Funds raised by the art show will go towards the maintenance of the historic Little River Mechanics Institute Hall and Library.
The art show will be held on Saturday from 10am-4pm and Sunday from 10am-2pm at the Mechanics Institute Hall, Rothwell Road, Little River. Entry is by gold coin donation.
