When it comes to clay target shooting, Anna Shedrina is a gun.
The Point Cook resident last month took the title of best female shooter at the Universal Trench World Championships in Morocco, and was a member of the winning female team.
“In one word, it feels unbelievable,” she said.
“Who doesn’t dream about one day becoming a world champion? I certainly did when I was growing up, and well into my adult life. To make that dream become a reality … words cannot describe how that makes me feel.
“It makes all the hard work, and all the disappointments when things didn’t go my way over the years, worthwhile. I’d like to do it again and again.”
Shedrina successfully shot 193 of the 200 targets in the competition, achieving a new personal best as well – all with a wrist injury.
“I think my success, despite this setback, can be put down to the attitude that one has when things don’t go their way,” she said. “I had a few things that didn’t go my way, which cost me some targets.
“But rather than get upset and frustrated, I took it all in stride.
“I told myself that I have a choice – I can let myself get frustrated and upset about it, and it will affect the rest of my performance, or I can let go of it and focus on what’s important at the present moment – the next target.”
Looking to the future, Shedrina hopes to again win the world championships, and possibly a medal or two at the Olympics.
