Shining a light on Diwali festival

One of the biggest festivals on the Hindu calendar is coming to Wyndham Vale this weekend.

Up to 15,000 people are expected at Presidents Park this Saturday for the Wyndham Diwali festival. Diwali is an ancient Hindu festival also known as the festival of lights.

Program director Archana Koorthy said highlights include a Bollywood dance competition and members of Twenty20 cricket team Melbourne Renegades in attendance to run kids activities.

Ms Koorthy said although Diwali was a traditional Hindu festival, the Wyndham event would celebrate all cultures.

The free event starts at noon and concludes with a fireworks display at 9.45pm.
